German League cup holders Bayern Munich have bowed out of this season's competition after a 2-1 loss to Stuttgart.
Bayern, who won last year's annual curtain-raiser in Germany, went ahead at the Allianz Arena - but they lost out to two second half strikes.
The ubiquitous Roy Makaay fired Bayern ahead after just 19 minutes to open his account for the season.
However, just two minutes later former Aston Villa star Thomas Hitzlsperger fired his first goal for the club since his summer move.
The game looked to be heading for added time, but Austrian defender Martin Stranzl had other ideas as he fired the winner to silence the home crowd.
Stuttgart will face Werder Bremen or Schalke in the final in Leipzig next month.
