VfB Stuttgart left back Philipp Lahm says he hopes to return to Bundesliga action in April.

The 21-year-old German international has been out of action since breaking his foot at the start of January, but is now able to run again and is hoping to make a swift first team return with the Schwaben.

"I will start training with the ball on Thursday and will join the rest of the squad a week later," Lahm told Kicker.

"I hope that I can return to action towards the end of April and play a few more games for Stuttgart."

Lahm's two-year loan period at Stuttgart concludes at the end of the season when he will return to Bayern Munich, but the youngster says he is still hopeful that his current employers can snatch the Bundesliga title from his parent club.

Despite Stuttgart being five points behind the Munich giants in the table, Lahm still believes VfB have a viable title chance.

"I want to win the Bundesliga with Stuttgart. If you look at the quality of the squads then Bayern must be favourite, but this season looks to be the most open one for years."
