Werder Bremen have completed the signing of Mateo Pavlovic from NK Zagreb on a deal which is due to run until 2016.
The 22-year-old centre-half is considered to be a hot prospect for the future, with Werder having closely monitored his progress for some time.
They have now made their move and director of football Frank Baumann is convinced that the Croatia U21 international will be a success in the Bundesliga.
He said: "We have been watching Mateo for quite some time.
"He is a young, talented centre-back who brings a lot of potential and fits in well with our requirements."
Werder boss Thomas Schaaf is also looking forward to working with a player who will officially make a move to Germany when the transfer window re-opens in January.
He said: "He's a big, ball-winning and aerially-dominant centre-half who has good technique.
"With Mateo, we have acquired a player who improves our squad with his qualities."
