German defender ready to test himself against "the best"

Werder Bremen right-back Clemens Fritz is bracing himself for round two against Gareth Bale as the Germans travel to Tottenham on Wednesday. The two sides drew 2-2 in their first meeting in UEFA Champions League Group A, with Bale proving a handful in Bremen back in September. Since then, the Wales international has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the most feared wingers on the planet after a string of scintillating displays. Bale made a mockery of Inter Milan's Brazilian right-back Maicon in Tottenham's last European outing, but Fritz insists he can cope with the best. "He's a great player," the Germany international said of Bale. "In the rankings, I think he's one of the fastest players of all. He scores goals, he's proven himself over the last few weeks, and he's very dangerous in his position. "But we're here, we're playing Champions League and we have to measure ourselves against the best." With just two points on the board, Bremen need a win at White Hart Lane to keep alive their faint hopes of progressing to the knockout stages, but Fritz is prepared to fight until the end. "I wouldn't say that we're afraid," he said, "We're now facing a great team in Spurs but we want to play our best. "We have a great platform here, we will not hide, and we're going to use our chance."
