Markus Rosenborg kept Werder Bremen's title bid on track as they secured a narrow 1-0 win over FC Nurnberg.
The former Ajax man (pictured) came off the bench to score the winner on 75 minutes at Weser Stadion.
The win sees Werder move to within two points of Bundesliga leaders Schalke, overtaking Stuttgart to occupy second place in the process.
Bochum jumped out of the relegation zone and into 11th place courtesy of a fine 4-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen.
The unexpected result stemmed from a superb first half for Bochum as a Karim Hagui own goal (8) and strikes from Anthar Yahia (16) and Theofanis Gekas (22) gave them a formidable lead.
European hopefuls Bayer pulled one back when Stefan Kiessling scored just after the hour mark, but their woes were compounded when the striker was dismissed with ten minutes to go and Gekas added a second (89).
Bayer remain eight points behind fourth-placed Bayern Munich, and just a point above Nurnberg following their defeat to Werder Bremen.
