Werder Bremen defender Naldo will be out of action for up to two weeks after picking up an injury in training.
The Brazilian stopper suffered ligament damage during a practice session on Tuesday and will be forced to miss Saturday's home match with Leverkusen, as well as Bremen's away game at Schalke on August 25.
With new signing Per Mertesacker still sidelined, it is likely that club captain Frank Baumann will partner Petri Pasanen at the Weserstadion this weekend.
Better news for Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf is that Danish international midfielder Daniel Jensen looks likely to be fit to face Leverkusen.
The 27-year-old was forced to withdraw from Denmark's squad for this week's international against Poland with a groin strain, but he is confident that he will be back in action in the Bundesliga.
Ç£Things are already looking a little better. I'm hoping to get back into training on Thursday and get fit to play against Leverkusen,Ç¥ he told Bremen's official website.
