Germany defender Per Mertesacker is hoping to secure a move to Werder Bremen.
The 21-year-old's future at Hannover has been the subject of intense speculation for some time after contract talks broke down in March.
Hannover were keen to tie down the central defender to a new long-term deal to ward off potential suitors.
However, Mertesacker was unwilling to pledge his long-term future to Hannover as he considers a new challenge.
Werder Bremen have previously confirmed their interest in Mertesacker and the giant defender has now set his sights on a move to the Weserstadion.
"I already indicated before the World Cup to the leaders of Hannover that I would like to join Bremen," said Mertesacker.
"I would like this transfer to take place this summer.
"Bremen is the ideal club for me in order to continue my progression at the international level."
