Porto striker Hugo Almeida has completed a season-long loan move to German side Werder Bremen.
The Portuguese outfit were keen to allow the 22-year-old to gain experience on the continent and a number of clubs had been interested in the player's services.
Premiership sides Portsmouth and Tottenham were both looking into the possibility of signing Almeida but Bremen have won the race for the Portuguese international.
Almeida will move to the Weser Stadion on a one-year loan deal looking to impress to earn a regular starting spot when he returns to Porto in 2007.
"My main objective is to play and I believe that in Germany I will learn a lot," he said.
