Werder Bremen's miserable week continued while leaders Bayern Munich were held.

Bremen were cruelly dispatched from the UEFA Champions League in midweek and have followed up the defeat with a 3-0 thumping to Hertha Berlin.

After a goalless first half at the Weser Stadion, second half efforts from Kevin Boateng, Marcelinho and Yildiray Basturk sealed an impressive win.

Bayern Munich failed to punish Werder as they were held by Wolfsburg at the VW-Arena.

FC Cologne remain bottom of Die Bundesliga but battled bravely in a 4-3 defeat to FC Nurnberg.

Things were comfortable for the visitors early on with Robert Vittek's hat-trick 22 minutes in putting Nurnberg firmly in the driving seat.

Boris Zivkovic pulled one back, but it looked nothing more than a consolation when Ivan Saenko added a fourth before the hour mark.

Cologne set up a nail-biting finish with Marvin Matip and Lukas Podolski making it 4-3, but they were unable to muster an equaliser.

The home side finished the game with 10 men when Christian Lell was sent off late on.

Stuttgart failed to close the gap on the leading pack after being held by Borussia Dortmund while MSV Duisburg's clash with Hannover also finished goalless.

Radomir Dalovic's early goal was enough to give Arminia Bielefeld a 1-0 success over Bayer Leverkusen.
