Arne ruled out for Germany

Hertha Berlin defender Arne Friedrich has pulled out of Germany's squad.

Hertha Berlin defender Arne Friedrich has pulled out of Germany's squad to face Slovakia on Saturday.

The 26-year-old right back informed German boss Jurgen Klinsmann of his unavailability on Friday after failing to recover from a stomach virus.

He will not now fly to Bratislava for Saturday's friendly but is expected to be fit to face South Africa in Bremen next Wednesday.

Friedrich looks set to be replaced by either Stuttgart's Andreas Hinkel or Bremen's Patrick Owomoyela in what could well be Germany's youngest ever back four - as Klinsmann is expected to give international debuts to 19-year-olds Lukas Sinkiewicz and Marcell Jansen.
