Werder Bremen have agreed terms with Arminia Bielefeld's German international defender Patrick Owomoyela.

Bremen sport director Klaus Allofs confirmed on Thursday that the 25-year-old has agreed a four-year deal at the Weser Stadion and will join the Bundesliga champions this summer as soon as a transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs.

"We have agreed the deal with the player, but there are still a few points to be sorted out with Arminia," Allofs said.

Owomoyela had also been linked with moves to Stuttgart, Hertha Berlin, Hamburg and Schalke in the course of the current season before deciding to continue his career with Bremen.

"We are always looking for players who can raise the standard of our team, and Patrick has shown at both club and international level that he is capable of doing that," added Allofs.

It is expected that Bremen and Bielefeld will agree a fee of around ‚é¼2.5 million for Owomoyela's services within the next few days.
