Double blow for Bremen

Werder Bremen have suffered a double injury blow.

Werder Bremen have suffered a double injury blow with Frank Baumann and Angelos Charisteas facing spells on the sidelines.

Baumann, who limped out of Werder's 2-0 UEFA Champions League defeat at Internazionale on Tuesday, has been diagnosed as having torn calf ligaments and will miss his team's next two Bundesliga matches against Hannover and Bielefeld, as well as next week's DFB Cup clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

Greek Euro 2004 hero Angelos Charisteas will also be forced to miss Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Hannover after suffering an ear injury in the latter stages of the match against Inter.

The news comes as a bitter blow to Werder coach Thomas Schaaf as he attempts to get Bremen's season back on track after three successive defeats at home and in Europe.
