Schalke remain hopeful of persuading Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to sign a new contract, but will not hold talks with the striker until December.

Huntelaar, who was the top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, is out of contract at Schalke next summer and has previously stated he is in no rush to decide his future.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Italian champions Juventus and is previously reported to have attracted interest from the Premier League.

The Netherlands international is likely to be a target for other clubs and Schalke expect a swift decision once talks begin with Huntelaar towards the end of the year.

"We have decided that we won't have any contract talks before December and there will be no new developments," Schalke's general manager Horst Heldt told Sport 1.

"I have had the feeling Klaas-Jan can't decide at this stage and I will give him the time he needs.

"My goal is to persuade him to stay at Schalke and to extend his contract.

"We will resume the talks in December, January at the latest, and then I expect a quick decision."
