Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed Tranquillo Barnetta will be leaving the club this summer after rejecting a new contract.
The 27-year-old missed much of this season due to a serious knee injury, but the Switzerland international was offered terms to stay at the BayArena.
However, the two parties were unable to agree a financial package and the midfielder will now head for a new club next season.
"Tranquillo has turned down our offer and he will leave us on June 30," said Bayer's general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser on his club's official website.
"This is very regrettable because we wanted to extend his contract, but we could not reach an agreement financially.
"I am unaware if Quillo already has a new club. Bayer Leverkusen wish him well for his future."
Barnetta made a total of 183 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen after joining from St Gallen in 2004 and has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Newcastle United, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic were all rumoured to be admirers of Barnetta last summer.
