Germans move to ward off striker's suitors

Schalke are ready to break the bank in a bid to keep star striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar at the club. A number of clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham, have been linked with a big-money move for the Dutch striker in the summer. Huntelaar, who is under contract until 2013, has been in superb form for Schalke this term, scoring 38 goals in 37 appearances and the Germans are keen to ward off potential suitors by tying down the 28-year-old to a new lucrative deal. "If we want quality, then we have got to push ourselves to the pain barrier," Schalke general manager Horst Heldt told Bild. "We will not tie Huntelaar to the negotiation table and torture him, but he does know that we really value him here. He feels happy here too." Huntelaar, who joined Schalke from AC Milan in the summer of 2010, insists he is not thinking about his future and that he is focused on doing his best for Schalke. "My focus is to score as many goals as possible," Huntelaar told Bild. "I am under contract with Schalke. "I am not yet thinking about my future."
