Schalke defender Christian Pander is facing weeks on the sidelines after suffering a new injury blow in training.
The 23-year-old left-back injured his left ankle in the club's final training session before Saturday's victory at Eintracht Frankfurt and will now be out of action for six to eight weeks.
Club doctor Thorsten Rarreck sent the player for a scan which revealed serious ligament damage.
The news is a massive blow for both the Royal Blues and Pander himself, coming less than two months after he returned to action following a 19-month injury lay-off.
Schalke are well placed in second in the Bundesliga, as only goal difference separates them from leaders Werder Bremen, and more positive news centres on Soren Larsen who returned to training at the end of last week following a six-week lay-off with an ankle problem.
