Schalke's new signing Gustavo is refusing to join the Royal Blues.
The 24-year-old Brazilian defender, who signed a contract to join the Bundesliga outfit in December, failed to arrive in Germany as Schalke returned to training and now says he does not want to join the club.
"We have heard about his views and will have to live with his decision," commented Schalke team manager Andreas Muller.
"But we would like to point out that we have a legal contract with Gustavo and that means he won't be able to play anywhere else.
"We will not cancel his contract for the moment and will wait and see how things develop," he added.
Reports that Brazilian outfit Palmeiras are interested in Gustavo could be the motivation behind the player's behaviour, but Muller is adamant that his club will not let the player go without some profit.
"If he doesn't want to join us, then Palmeiras will have to pay up for his signature," he said.
