Struggling Bundesliga outfit Hamburg have opened talks with Schalke about out-of-favour goalkeeper Frank Rost.
HSV boss Thomas Doll is keen to bring the experienced custodian to the AOL Arena with both Sascha Kirschstein and Stefan Wachter failing to impress this season
Rost has lost his first team place at Schalke to youngster Manuel Neuer and has already admitted that he would be prepared to move on to get playing again.
Hamburg sport director Dietmar Beiersdorfer confirmed that he has contacted Schalke as to Rost's availability.
Ç£We haven't made an offer yet, but have informed them that we are interested,Ç¥ said Beiersdorfer.
Doll would like to get Rost on board in time for his club's winter training camp in Dubai at the start of January, but it would appear that both sides still need time to agree transfer details.
The 33-year-old keeper is contracted at Schalke until June 2009 and would be expected to command a fee of around é¼1.5 million (£1 million).
