Bayern Munich came from behind to draw at Schalke, while Eintracht Frankfurt beat Borussia Monchengladbach.
Reigning champions Bayern appeared to be heading for a heavy defeat when Schalke forged 2-0 in front after just 20 minutes.
Former Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands put the hosts ahead on 13 minutes and Levan Kobiashvili quickly added a second.
But Bayern scored an important goal right on half time when Andreas Ottl netted for the visitors.
The comeback was complete when Roy Makaay equalised on 52 minutes and the draw lifts both clubs up a place, with Bayern now third and Schalke fourth.
At the lower end of the Bundesliga table, Eintracht recorded just their second win of the campaign to move from 14th into 10th.
Monchengladbach had Thomas Helveg sent off on 56 minutes and Naohiro Takahara grabbed the decisive goal 12 minutes from time.
