Borussia Monchengladbach have been linked with a move for Boca Juniors playmaker Federico Insua.
The Argentine international moved to Boca in January of last year but is set to leave the club during the summer, with Germany his most likely destination.
Schalke and Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be in the running for the 26-year-old but Argentinian newspaper La Nacion are reporting The Foals now head the queue.
Monchengladbach sport director Peter Pander met Boca president Mauricio Macri on Tuesday to discuss the proposal, although the deal is thought to be some way off completion.
"We still have to sort out several details," Macri said.
New Gladbach coach Jupp Heynckes has been handed the task of rebuilding The Foals' squad after a disappointing 2005/06 season and could well see Insua as the answer to the club's recent problems in the creative midfield position.
