Cziommer completes AZ switch

Simon Cziommer has become AZ Alkmaar's fifth signing of the summer.

Simon Cziommer has become AZ Alkmaar's fifth signing of the summer.

The German midfielder joins the Dutch outfit on a free transfer from Schalke, where his contract was due to expire.

Cziommer spent the second half of last season on loan with fellow Eredivisie side Roda JC, scoring eight goals in just 15 appearances.

A number of clubs had been keen on signing the 25-year-old, who was a product of FC Twente's youth system, but AZ have beaten them to the player's signature.

Cziommer follows Joey Gudjonsson, Maarten Martens, Moussa Dembele and Kemy Agustien through the doors at the club.

Meanwhile, the Dutch side are thought to be close to adding a further three players to Foeke Booy's squad for next season.

Atletico Miniero goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, Dutch under-21 defender Gijs Luirink and NAC Breda winger Julien Jenner are all expected to sign in the near future.
