Schalke striker Ebbe Sand has undergone an operation after breaking his nose against Fenerbache on Wednesday.

The Danish international striker, who has just one solitary goal to his name this season, was forced out of the Royal Blues' UEFA Champions League clash in Istanbul at half time as a result of the injury.

Schalke boss Ralf Rangnick will now have to do without the experienced forward for Saturday's Bundesliga match at Wolfsburg, where they will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight games, and next Tuesday's DFB Cup clash with Frankfurt.

Schalke are hopeful that Sand will be able to return to action wearing a protective mask for the trip to Hamburg on October 29.
