Schalke have handed Christian Pander a lucrative deal.
Bundesliga runners-up Schalke have handed promising youngster Christian Pander a lucrative one-year contract extension which now binds the left back to the Veltins-Arena until 2008.
The Germany Under-21 international, who joined the Royal-Blues from Preussen Muenster in 2001, was on the verge of breaking into Jurgen Klinsmann national team when he tore cruciate ligaments in the Bundesliga game against Stuttgart in April 2005.
"Given his age and his prospects he is one of the corner stones of our team," declared team manager Andreas Muller after the 21-year-old put pen-to-paper on his new contract.
Pander has made good progress so far, but will not be available for selection for Ralf Rangnick's team before October.
