Vermant back in Brugge

Schalke midfielder Sven Vermant has returned to Belgium.

Schalke midfielder Sven Vermant has rejoined his former club Brugge on a three-year deal.

The Belgian international has decided to return to his native country after being told that he would not be receiving a contract extension from his current club in Gelsenkirchen.

"Sven Vermant was always an extremely valuable player, with good skills and a strong character," said Schalke team manager Andreas Muller.

"This move is the best thing for both sides and maybe we will see him again in the Champions League next season.

"Sven will always be a welcome guest at Schalke," he added.

The 32-year-old joined the Royal Blues from Brugge in 2001 and played a total of 98 Bundesliga games for the club.
