Bundesliga Round-Up

On a day of surprises in Die Bundesliga, Bayern Munich were the big winners as Schalke, Stuttgart and Wolfsburg all lost.

With Bayern not in action until Sunday, the Bavarian giants' title rivals all floundered in their pursuit of the championship.

Schalke, who are level on points with Bayern, were humbled 2-0 at mid-table Kaiserslautern.

Ioannis Amanatidis broke the deadlock on 57 minutes and Stefan Blank's (pictured) 75th minute penalty put the game to bed.

Stuttgart suffered a shock 4-2 defeat at home to Nurnberg as they conceded two goals in the final five minutes.

Nurnberg raced into a two-goal advantage inside 11 minutes as Maik Wagefeld and Markus Schroth were on target.

The hosts responded in the second half to score through Fernando Meira on 51 minutes and then drew level on 70 minutes courtesy of Imre Szabics.

But Marek Mintal put Nurnberg back ahead five minutes from the finish prior to Schroth grabbing his second in the final minute.

Wolfsburg had Kevin Hofland sent off for a second yellow card on 83 minutes as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Freiburg, with the only goal coming on 57 minutes through Zlatan Bajramovic.

Bayer Leverkusen took advantage of defeats for teams above them in the table to close on the UEFA Champions League spots by pounding struggling Bochum 4-0 at the BayArena.

Jacek Krzynowek set the ball rolling with the opening goal on 28 minutes and, three minutes later, Andrej Voronin doubled the lead.

A 70th minute goal from Robson Ponte stretched the advantage and Paul Freier put an extra dose of gloss on the scoreline with a fourth on 78 minutes.

A Daniel Stendel goal on the half hour was enough to secure Hannover the points at Arminia Bielefeld.

Struggling duo Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach could only muster a 1-1 draw when they met at the Westfalenstadion.

Jan Koller fired Dortmund ahead on 29 minutes but the visitors snatched a point through Peer Kluge's 49th minute leveller.

Benjamin Lauth popped up ten minutes from time to hand Hamburg a 2-1 victory at home to Mainz.

Sergei Barbarez had put Hamburg ahead on 32 minutes before Benjamin Lauer levelled things up five minutes before half time.
