Uefa Cup round-up: G-V

Schalke cruised into the group stage of the Uefa Cup with a 4-0 win against Metalurgs.

Schalke cruised into the group stage of the Uefa Cup with a convincing 4-0 win giving them a 9-1 aggregate victory over Latvian side Metalurgs.

Schalke were already in a strong position from the home leg - where they moved into a 5-1 lead - and their Latvian opposition never looked likely to get back into the game.

Ebbe Sand scored the opener for Schalke three minutes before the break - but it was Mike Hanke who added a gloss to the scoreline.

Hanke scored a second half hat-trick for the Bundesliga side, to ensure they move into the group round, where they will be amongst the favourites to move through to the latter stages of this competition.

Stuttgart join their fellow Bundesliga side in the next round, after crusing to a convincing 7-1 aggregate win over Ujpesti with a 4-0 second leg win on the night.

Andreas Hinkel got the opener, before a Cacau brace, either side of a Horst Heldt penalty, put the German side through.

Heerenveen had only a one-legged match against Maccabi Petach Tikva after the Israeli leg was cancelled due to a genereal strike.

The Dutch side had little problem progressing, picking up a 5-0 win courtesy of goals from Arnold Bruggink, Mika Vayrynen, Petter Hanson, Victor Sikora and Stefan Selakovic.

Aigeleo of Greece also progressed into the next stage after a 2-1 aggregate win over Genclerbirligi in Turkey.

Georgis Barkoglou scored for Aigeleo on the stroke of half time before a Guenter Friesenbichler own goal  gave Blackburn Rovers' past conquerors hope, but it was to be a mere consolation.

Sochaux grabbed a 9-0 aggregate win after battering Stabaek 5-0 in Norway.

Dos Santos Silva,  Jaouad Zairi and Jeremy Mathieu all grabbed goals - with Ilan scoring a brace for the French side.

Litex Lovech picked up a 1-0 win on the night courtesy of Soares Joaozinho, but Grazer AK still won the tie 5-1 on aggregate.

IF Elfsborg and Dinamo Zagreb drew 0-0 on the night, but it was Zagreb who progressed 2-0 on aggregate.

Standard Liege won on the away goal ruling after a 1-1 draw away at Bochum. Jorge Curbelo got the vital goal in the final minute for Liege after Marcel Maltritz had put Bochum in front.

Rapid Vienna and Sporting fought out a 0-0 draw with Sporting progressing with a 2-0 first leg win.

Austria Vienna won 4-1 on aggregate against Legia Warsaw with a 3-1 win in the second leg. Stephan Vachousek, a Mirko Poledica own goal and Libor Sionko got the Vienna goals.  Marcin Solinski got on the scoresheet for Warsaw.
