Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Bayern Munich 4-1 as Kevin Kuranyi's hat-trick earned Stuttgart a thrilling win at Kaiserslautern.

Doubles for Dimitar Berbatov and Franca crushed the Bavarian giants, whose only consolation was a late Michael Ballack goal.

Berbatov broke the deadlock on 21 minutes before a triple salvo early in the second half put Bayer in total command.

Franca netted on 52 and 56 minutes and Berbatov scored again before the hour mark. German international Ballack scored for Bayern with six minutes remaining.

Prolific striker Kuranyi condemned Kaiserslautern to a third consecutive defeat with his treble for Stuttgart.

He opened the scoring on 31 minutes but Kaiserslautern were ahead before the break courtesy of Jochen Seitz and Carsten Jancker.

Kuranyi's levelled the contest on 51 minutes and he poached the decisive goal with nine minutes remaining.

Benjamin Lauth earned Hamburg their first points of the season with a late winner in a seven-goal thriller against Nurnberg.

Daniel van Buyten put Hamburg ahead on 12 minutes before Marek Mintal equalised on 37 minutes, only for Bjorn Schlicke to restore the hosts' advantage prior to the interval.

Emile Mpenza sent Hamburg further clear on 50 minutes before Mintal completed a hat-trick with goals on 76 and 84 minutes. He did not deserve to be on the losing side but he was when Lauth popped up with four minutes left on the clock.

Borussia Monchengladbach are still waiting for their first win of the season after coming from behind to earn a point at Freiburg.

Roda Antar scored on 20 minutes for the hosts but Oliver Neuville became the first player to score against Freiburg this term when earning a point on 78 minutes.

Antonio di Salvo fired a double salvo to score Hansa Rostock's first goals of the season in the win at Schalke.

Hertha Berlin have now drawn all three games this season after Fredi Bobic's 69th minute goal was cancelled out ten minutes later by Mainz's Jurgen Kramny.

Mamadou-Lamine Diabang nicked a last minute winner as VFL Bochum prevailed at Arminia Bielefeld.

Tomasz Zdebel scored just after the half hour for the visitors but Arminia appeared to have claimed a point when Delron Buckley netted on 87 minutes, only for Diabang to arrive on time in the final minute.
