Schalke have been rocked by the news that midfielder Christian Poulsen will be out for six weeks.
The Danish international suffered a knee injury in his side's 3-0 win over Freiburg at the weekend.
A scan on the problem has revealed the former Copenhagen star has suffered ligament damage and faces an extended spell on the sidelines.
"I have had a scan and have been told that the interior ligament is 80 percent ripped off," stated Poulsen to Ritzau.
"I'm told that I will be out for six weeks, although it might take longer to make a full recovery."
