Franco Di Santo marked his return from injury with both goals as Werder Bremen climbed out of the relegation places in Sunday's 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin.

The ex-Chelsea and Wigan forward, who missed the final few league games of 2014 with a knee injury, produced two clinical strikes either side of half-time to lift Bremen from 16th to 12th.

Defeat at Bremen leaves Hertha 15th and just above the relegation zone, but things remain tight at the foot of the table with just three points separating the bottom six teams.

Augsburg moved level with third-placed Borussia Monchengladbach on 30 points in the Bundesliga after seeing off Hoffenheim 3-1 on Sunday.

Halil Altintop and Tobias Werner put Augsburg in control before Roberto Firmino pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time.

Augsburg continued to have the better of things in the second half, though, and added a third late on through Raul Bobadilla to seal a seventh home win of the season.
