Werder Bremen have no intention of selling Franco Di Santo in January, with the striker under contract until 2016.

The 25-year-old has seen his career take off since securing a move to Germany in 2013.

Prior to that, the former Chelsea forward had struggled his way through two years at Stamford Bridge and a season-long loan at Blackburn Rovers.

Things improved during a spell at Wigan Athletic, which saw him taste FA Cup glory, but it was a switch to the Bundesliga which really ignited the Argentine frontman.

A steady stream of goals, including six in 10 appearances this season, has seen him earn senior international recognition and draw admiring glances from afar.

Bremen, though, have been quick to rubbish exit rumours, with Di Santo a key figure in their future plans.

General manager Thomas Eichin told BILD: “We are not interested in selling Franco Di Santo ahead of next season. We would like to work long-term with Franco.

“We will definitely talk to him about the future when we have a chance and try to work out a new deal.

“I am not surprised he is scoring a lot of goals. I always knew he was a deadly striker.”
