Borussia Dortmund will be without central defender Mats Hummels until January while full-back Marcel Schmelzer will miss the next three weeks as a result of injuries the pair picked up in Tuesday night's international friendly win for Germany over England.
Hummels lasted less than 20 minutes of the game after entering the field as a half-time substitute before limping off again, replaced by Schalke's Benedikt Howedes.
A scan has confirmed that he has pulled ligaments around his heel bone and will miss the rest of 2013, including Saturday's top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash with his former club Bayern Munich.
Schmelzer will also miss that game, although is likely to be back before Christmas with a calf strain ruling him out.
Both will also miss Dortmund's pivotal UEFA Champions League clash with Napoli next week, the club have announced via their website.
