Wolfsburg midfielder Diego remains coy about his future amid speculation over a January move to Atletico Madrid.
Both the playmaker and his father, Djair Cunham, have spoken to Brazilian publication 'Lancenet' in his homeland about the recent reports linking him with a move away from the Volkswagen Arena.
When quizzed about a potential return to the club where he spent the 2011/12 season, he said: "I can't confirm this interest right now but I haven't received anything official.
"When the right time comes, I'll see what I have to do. I have a lot of affection for everything I achieved there in such a short time.
"I believe that when the moment comes, both the club and I will have to make a decision.
Madrid is not the only destination that Diego has been linked with, amid suggestions he could return to Brazil.
When commenting on a possible homecoming, he added: "I don't rule out returning to Brazil but my first objective is to stay in Europe. I pay attention to anyone who shows interest in me."
His father told the newspaper that there have been talks with the Spanish club as he was quoted as saying: "The club that have been talking a lot with me is Atletico Madrid, they are a club who have a lot of affection for Diego."
