Hamburg general manager Oliver Kreuzer has told midfielder Tomas Rincon to be realistic after the Venezuelan turned down a new contract offer.
Rincon, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, has featured four times this season in the Bundesliga and is unhappy at Hamburg's initial terms.
"I am very disappointed about the offer," he told German newspaper BILD earlier this week.
"We are discussing a new offer but we are quite far off an agreement. We will, however, keep on discussing."
However, Kreuzer believes that there is no reason for the club to change their stance but insisted that they did want Rincon to stay.
"When you are on a contract that's expiring, a new deal will not automatically hand you a raise in wages," he also told BILD.
"You have to be realistic in your terms, but we do want to keep Tomas at our club."
