Hannover want to agree a new contract with Ron-Robert Zieler and could remove a release clause in his current deal.
Zieler joined Hannover in 2010 from Manchester United and he currently has two years left to run on his contract with the Bundesliga club.
However, he has a release clause which is active during each transfer window and reports in Germany claim the figure is in the region of €7million (£5.9m).
The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer before the Premier League club signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland.
A new deal is now in the pipeline and Hannover's general manager Dirk Dufner expressed his concern about the clause in Zieler's present contract.
"We are keen on signing a new contract with Ron-Robert Zieler," Dufner told Sport-BILD weekly.
"No club in this business is happy to have players under contract that are based on release clauses. Of course, we are also not happy about such circumstances."
