FC Nurnberg general manager Martin Bader has admitted that he does not expect to complete the signing of Vfl Wolfsburg midfielder Makoto Hasebe.

The Japan international, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, has established himself as a regular in Germany since his switch from Urawa Red Diamonds in 2008.

Nurnberg have been linked with a move for the 29-year old, but although Bader says that his side are keen on acquiring Hasebe's services, he concedes that a deal remains unlikely.

"We are interested in the signing of Makoto Hasebe of Vfl Wolfsburg," he told German sports magazine Kicker.

"We have been in touch with the club. However, at this point in time it seems that this deal will not go through.

"We simply have to respect this."
