Freiburg coach Christian Streich has called on the club to reduce the number of first-team players.
The Bundesliga outfit, who are fifth in the league table, currently have 28 players on their books.
Streich, who joined Freiburg as their coach in January 2012, says that the young players who do not get games need to be offloaded in January mainly for their sake.
"We have too many players," he told Deutsche Presseagentur. "There is no sense in young men being unable to execute their jobs for months, staying in the stands wearing jeans while the rest are in shorts and getting cheered by the crowd.
"I speak from personal experience. When I was at Stuttgarter Kickers, my team were playing in the German Cup final against Hamburg in 1987.
"I had to watch it from the stands and I was terribly sad then. It left a scar on me."
