Nils Petersen has celebrated signing a two-year contract extension with Bayern Munich by joining Werder Bremen on loan.

The 23-year-old striker shot to fame by scoring 35 times in 56 appearances for Energie Cottbus before signing for the Bundesliga giants in 2011.

Although Petersen found his chances at Bayern limited to just nine appearances in his first season, he scored twice and showed enough promise to secure a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2015

And now he has agreed to join Bremen on a season-long loan to get some more first-team experience to the delight of manager Thomas Schaaf.

"Nils Petersen is a centre-forward that has already shown his hunger for goals," he told the club's official website. "We are delighted to have him at our club.

"We are convinced he has ideal circumstances to progress as a player at Werder Bremen."
