Schalke defender set to move to Stuttgart to gain playing time

Out-of-favour Schalke defender Tim Hoogland is to switch to Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart on a one-year loan deal. The 27-year-old has failed to become a regular in his second spell with the club and will switch sides to gain playing time. The move will be made official upon the successful passing of a medical while Stuttgart also have an option to make the transfer permanent next summer. "We have several options at full-back and, after his long injury break, it made sense for both sides for Tim to get the opportunity of gaining some match practice in Stuttgart," said Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt. Hoogland, who played for the Royal Blues between 1998 and 2007 before spending three years with Mainz, has a contract with Schalke until 2014 He has played a total of 36 Bundesliga matches, 15 for Schalke and 21 for Mainz.
