Nurnberg are not in the running to clinch the signature of Hannover's former Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz.

But club are looking for a defender in the summer window

Nurnberg general manager Martin Bader insists the club are not in the running to clinch the signature of Hannover's former Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz. Reports in Germany have suggested the Austria international defender is on the verge of joining Wolfsburg, despite having three years left on his contract. Pogatetz has played down talk of his exit, but the Hanover first-team regular is understood to have fallen out with manager Mirko Slomka. Nurnberg have reportedly submitted concrete bids for the services of the 29-year-old, but Bader insists that is not the case.

In the market

He told Bild: "I only phoned Hannover once about the services of Pogatetz. There have been no further talks. "Those reports suggesting we had submitted an offer and those reports that suggested we had increased this bid later on are untrue." Bader added: "It's a fact we are looking to sign a defender. We would be glad to sign one who speaks fluent German, but this is not a big criteria. "Quality will always beat origin in the end." Any new defenders will join Nurnberg in place of Dominic Maroh, who has agreed to join relegated Bundesliga club Cologne on a Bosman transfer.
