New Augsburg signing Lorenzo Davids has explained his reasons for moving to Germany from NEC Nijmegen.
The 24-year-old has switched to the Bundesliga on a two-year deal ahead of the conclusion of his contract with NEC.
Davids, a cousin to Dutch legend Edgar Davids, played 29 matches for NEC last season, but he wanted to improve his chances of representing his country by playing in a more competitive league.
He told Kicker: "I came over to make the next important step in my career. It's definitely one of my goals in my career to play for the Netherlands at international level.
"Playing in the Bundesliga is a good basis for that. I just want to play with the big guys. Bundesliga means there are great players, great stadiums, a great atmosphere and a tough competition standard.
"This is like the Premiership or Primera Division."
Davids added with regard to his new club's targets: "Augsburg are a promoted outfit. We will definitely focus on staying in the top division."
