Werder Bremen have signed two players from fellow Bundesliga outfit Schalke after agreeing deals for Aleksandar Stevanovic and Lukas Schmitz. Midfielder Stevanovic, who represented Schalke's Under 19 team and has yet to play a Bundesliga match, joins Bremen on a contract until June 2014 after a Bosman free transfer. Full-back Schmitz featured in 23 Bundesliga matches last season and has signed a four-year contract after a €1million (£900,000) transfer fee was agreed. Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs told his club's official website: "We are happy to have signed Aleksandar Stefanovic and Lukas Schmitz.

Ambitious

"Aleksandar Stefanovic is a young lad that has impressed us with great performances for the U19 of Schalke last season. "Lukas Schmitz is a very ambitious youngster. He will enrich our options on various roles within our defensive set-up. "He has already shown at Schalke he is able to play left-sided full-back." Bremen manager Thomas Schaaf added: "I am delighted to see Lukas Schmitz join our club. We have been intensively trying to sign him in recent weeks. Now I am happy to have him available for us." In January 2011, Bremen signed Predrag Stevanovic, the older brother of Aleksandar Stevanovic, from the reserves of Schalke.
