Turkish midfielder to leave as a free agent in the summer

Hamit Altintop is to part company with Bayern Munich when his contract expires in the summer. The Turkey international has been unable to hold down a regular starting role at Allianz Arena this season and feels the time has come to move on. He will leave after four years with the Bundesliga giants, during which time he made 63 league appearances and scored seven goals. The 28-year-old was offered fresh terms to remain at Bayern past the end of the season, but the midfielder believes he would be better advised to try his luck elsewhere. "Hamit played the full 90 minutes in only three games this season. That is too little, we understand it and respect it." Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement. "It was Hamit's wish not to extend his contract that runs out at the end of the season."
