Manchester United are said to have scouted the Germany No.1, but he announced last week that he did not want to move away from his homeland.

Unsettled Neuer has one year remaining on his Schalke contract and he is expected to be sold in the summer and Bayern would be strong contenders for his signature.

Hoeness told Sportinformationsdienst: "We are thinking about signing a goalkeeper for the new season.

New contract

"And from the eyes of a Schalke supporter, I would very much feel my club's goalkeeper being tracked."

Schalke forward Jefferson Farfan has also been linked with Bayern in the past, as well as Juventus.

But the Peruvian's agent, Raul Gonzalez Jordan, claims his client is happy after the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as new Schalke manager.

Jordan told Uruguayan media Obvacion Digital Faran: "We have already been talking to the club with regard to a new contract, although his current deal will just expire in about 12 months from now."

Bayern are also being linked with Germany international defender Jerome Boateng, who has failed to make a positive impact since joining Manchester City from Hamburg last summer.
