Veteran set for MLS, Proll handed a trial as a possible replacement

Veteran goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon is set to leave Cologne, who have handed a trial to Markus Proll. Mondragon's contract will be cancelled at the end of the month - six months early - as the 39-year-old wants to move to the MLS. The Colombia international, who joined Cologne from Galatasaray in 2007, is being heavily linked with a free transfer switch to the Philadelphia Union. A possible replacement is unattached Proll, who began his professional career at Cologne and has been handed a trial. Manager Frank Schaefer told the club's official website: "We want to get an impression of the fitness level of Markus Proll. "We will then need time to identify whether Markus is a player we are wanting to sign." Proll was at Cologne until 2003 before he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, whom he left in the summer.
