Former Germany Under-21 star Ashkan Dejagah has committed his international future to Iran.

The 24-year-old's dreams of representing Germany were as good as gone after another disappointing season at Wolfsburg.

According to reports in the Middle East, Dejagah has accepted an offer to play for Iran after lengthy discussions with national team officials that included head coach Afshin Ghotbi.

The versatile midfielder, whose father is Iranian, is expected to play a major role for Team Melli as they prepare for next year's Asian Cup in Qatar.

Reports have indicated he would receive star treatment in Iran and is set to be given the number 10 shirt previously worn by national icon Ali Daei.
