Stuttgart are understood to be interested in prolific Japan striker Shinji Okazaki.
The 24 year-old recently caught the eye of Stuttgart sporting director Fredi Bobic during a scouting trip in the Far East.
With 15 goals in only 16 appearances for the Blue Samurai, the Shimizu S-Pulse star could be the player Stuttgart need as they look to avoid relegation this term.
"He is a very interesting player indeed. We are continuously looking to improve our squad," Bobic was quoted as saying on Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
Interest in players from the Far East has peaked in Germany in recent months, thanks to the success of Borussia Dortmund's dynamic youngster Shinji Kagawa.
Like many of Japan's home-based internationals, Okazaki is keen to test himself abroad and would welcome the move to Germany.
