Goalkeeper sidelined with knee strain

Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese is set to be sidelined for ten days due to a knee injury. The Germany international sustained the problem during Bremen's 1-1 draw against FC Twente in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. It was initially feared that Wiese might be facing a lengthy lay-off, although the player himself was hopeful of a speedy recovery. And Bremen will now be relieved to hear that the 28-year-old should be back in action within a fortnight despite damaging medial ligaments. Wiese will miss his side's Bundesliga match at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday and the German Cup second round match at Bayern Munich next Tuesday, before possibly coming back into contention next weekend. Manager Thomas Schaaf said: "It has confirmed what we already suspected on Wednesday. "We are all just pleased the injury is not worse than it could have been."
