The versatile 23-year-old, who can play in defence as well as midfield, has yet to feature for the Bundesliga outfit this term after suffering from sciatic trouble lately.

But Hamburg manager Armin Veh has admitted that the player now faces an extended spell on the sidelines after the recent scan.

He told the club's official website: "We are going to be without Dennis Aogo for more weeks as the recent MRI scan has proved he is having more problems than we expected.

"We are not going to be able to rely on him in the coming weeks. He will need to have special treatment to recover from this."

Aogo's last appearance came in Germany's third-place play-off victory against Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup.
