Wolfsburg and Denmark defender Simon Kjaer has hit back at criticism of his personal form.

Young Dane unimpressed by opinion of doubter Tofting

Wolfsburg and Denmark defender Simon Kjaer has hit back at criticism of his personal form. The centre-back played the full 90 minutes as his country recorded an injury-time win over Iceland in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday night. Kjaer has also featured in both of Wolfsburg's Bundesliga matches this season after manager Steve McClaren paid Palermo a reported £10million in July. But former Bolton and Denmark midfielder Stig Tofting has not been impressed by the 21-year-old's performances, observing that he is making too many mistakes. Kjaer has been offended by the comments, but he plans to use them as an incentive, telling newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung: "These statements hit me personally! "It is the first time that I have come under pressure and I try to take these words as a motivation. "I am not happy about his (Tofting's) opinion. He just says that to stay in the public attention. He should be serious!"
