Schalke have completed the signing of Kyriakos Papadopoulos from Olympiakos on a four-year deal.
The Bundesliga side are understood to have paid the Greeks a fee in the region of £2million for the 18-year-old, who joined his new team-mates for the start of their pre-season training on Thursday.
Centre-back Papadopoulos had been earning excellent reviews for his performances for Olympiakos and solid displays for Greece's Under 21 team, which attracted rumoured interest from across Europe.
But it is Schalke who have signed Papadopoulos and he becomes the club's fifth new signing of the summer after deals were completed for Christoph Metzelder, Erik Jendrisek, Tim Hoogland and Atsuto Uchida.
Manchester City had been linked with the teenager in May, when it was incorrectly reported that the Premier League side had agreed a deal.
